More People Cry from This Place Than Any Other. Have You?

It seems like some are just born to trouble. It keeps finding them. For others, trouble drops out of nowhere and for no obvious reason. Then there are those who go looking for trouble – and find it!

Trouble also comes when we run from God. We’re angry, hurt, disillusioned, caught up in sin or afraid of what might happen if we walk after His will instead of our own. Many do this, have you?

In Jonah 2, someone well-acquainted with God’s word and His will decided he didn’t like the next assignment. He knew exactly what God wanted and responded by running instead of yielding.

The problem before us can cloud our perception of the potential beyond us. So, we go the other way and find trouble. The greater our revelation from God, the greater our responsibility to God.

When we run from God’s declared will we’ll run into God’s prepared “whale” (1:17). Don’t be surprised when it leads to a bad place (2:1-2). God uses your affliction to get your attention.

When you find yourself in the “belly of Hell” cry to God. And like Jonah, He will hear you!

(2:3-4). It just might be in your misery that you rediscover your mission. “Hello, God? It’s me again! You have my attention now, can I have yours?” Great regrets precede great recoveries.

Isn’t it amazing how much pain we’ll endure to avoid confronting what we fear or what we think will happen if we obey God’s word? When we do this, there’s God ordained trouble ahead.

And God is waiting for you there even if it’s in the belly of hell! Call on Him there and He’ll hear you. For Jonah, there were two ways out of his trouble, repentance or – well, the rear end!

Your choices in the troubles you run into have consequences too. There are two ways out of this place: The way you came in moving back toward God or – well,… and time is running out.

Consider the trouble or affliction you presently face. Might it be the result of not yielding to God’s clear will for you? How might the Lord be using this misery to help you recover your mission?

If you continue running what will be the likely consequences? Think long term – where does this ultimately lead? Where has it led others? Take time to talk (or cry) to God about it. He will hear.
