You Don’t Want to Be This Person. Really, You Don’t!

After 30+ years in ministry it still frustrates me that people do this when God’s at work

In partnership with

On A Personal Note

It never ceases to amaze me that when God does a miraculous work in someone’s life, instead of celebrations some offer criticisms! And far too often it’s someone from the religious crowd.

I don’t want to be that guy! Lord, help us to celebrate what you are doing in the lives of others!!

The Text Message

In John 5:10-15, a desperate human-being responded to God’s word and is forever changed. He’ll not return to that dark place, so dependent on others and imprisoned by some inability.

As he begins his new walk with Jesus the bed that once carried him is now carried by him. A trophy of the grace of God and witness to everyone that Jesus made him whole. Glory! Right?

(10-12) Not so fast. Don’t be surprised that when Jesus makes you whole – inside and out – you run into doubters, detractors and demands! They emphasize what’s wrong and find fault.

(13) Our walk grows stronger in the struggles and God’s silence than in the celebrations. God didn’t save you so others could still support you. That’s His job now – you can trust Him.

When your faith is tested and your flesh is tempted keep walking. It might not seem like Jesus is there, but just as He showed up to make you whole, He’ll show up to keep you holy.

(14-15) Thou art made whole, sin no more. Strong words! Jesus met us in our darkest hour, gifted us the miracle of newness of life, empowers it – and then reminds us in the tests of life!

Never go back to what you were rescued from if Jesus has made you whole and holy. Rise, take up thy bed, and walk! You won’t be coming back and don’t let anyone get in the way.

When God’s at work, everyone will know it; some might not like it. Be the one who celebrates. You get to choose whether you’ll hinder or help those in whom God is doing some new thing.

Let’s Take the Message Home

What test, temptation or opposition do you face right now? Clarify it. Is it opposition to your holiness or wholeness? Who or what is causing it and why? Should you confront or ignore it?

Is Jesus now silent when it feels like you need support? Stop and talk to Him in prayer. He’s closer than you think and helping you grow stronger for the walk ahead. You can trust Him.
