It Took Me Nearly 30 Years to Figure Out Why Jesus Did This to This Guy
Maybe you saw it sooner, but I struggled over and over, now I can’t unsee it!
We’ve all heard it growing up: Look both ways before you cross the street; measure twice, cut once; watch the replay to make the call; seek a second opinion; check the blind spot in the mirror.
I like the game “spot the difference” to see what I might have missed. But that blind man in Mark 8 has given me fits for years. What on earth is Jesus doing? Why can’t this guy see right, first time?
I’ve studied the Bible for over 30 years now and finally got it. Now that I see it, I can’t unsee it! Jesus has some things we need to take a second look at, and Mark arranges a few details to help:
V. 23-24. Maybe the healing Jesus is doing in your life is a private matter. He’ll get you alone to deal with the pain of the past, limiting beliefs, or loss. He needs you to see it differently now.
V. 25. Once we can honestly admit we might not see things clearly, Jesus gives another touch.
V. 27-30. Now, take a second look at your relationship with and to Jesus. Who is He? Maybe you’ve formed beliefs about Him, or opinions planted by others that need to revisited or revised.
V. 31-33. We could all benefit from another look at what Jesus accomplished at Calvary, right?
V. 34-38. When we’re honest about not seeing Jesus as clearly as we’d like, He improves our vision and challenges our priorities. This is where we can bow the knee, give praise, and make changes.
Someone said with clarity, It costs us nothing to become a Christian, but everything to be one. True words. Maybe you’ve waited a long time for Jesus to help you see things with more clarity.
Try this today. Invite Jesus to take you to a private place, touch your vision and then be honest with Him about how you see things in your life right now. Ask Him to reveal the blind spots.
Then ask Him to touch you again so you can see your needs, relationship, and priorities clearly. Once you see it, you won’t be able to unsee it.
That’s the benefit of a second look, no matter how long it takes! Are you ready for a second look?
