They Were So Ashamed They Wanted to Hide from God. He Asked This.

So, what do you do when your ashamed, and what does God want you to answer?

Thank you for subscribing! Hopefully you enjoy reading these as much as I do writing them. I’d love to hear how they’re impacting you and how we can make them better together.

Have you ever found yourself wanting to hide, even from God, because you’re embarrassed about some poor decision you’ve made? Yeah, me too!

People make bad decisions to cover up their shame, you probably have too. So, what does God ask of us in response? Two people you know very well offer some guidance (Gen. 3:8-13).

1. (Gen. 3:9-10). Where are you? God knows and desires an honest response. They hid behind fig leaves and trees. What do you hide behind when you’re ashamed?

Maybe it’s anger, bitterness, self-pity, indulgence, irresponsibility or pride. It could be work, substance abuse, expectations or outward appearances, religion, lies or hypocrisy.

Name it, God already knows. Jesus is gentle and drawing you out from hiding to talk with Him.

2. (Gen. 3:11-12). Who told you? We all allow voices to speak into our lives: Media, influencers, music, mentors, friends, colleagues, parents, even self! Who’s your authority apart from God?

You’ll make poor choices when you listen to those who have your attention but not your best interest at heart. You’ll know because they contradict God’s word and you make excuses or become defensive.

3. (Gen. 3:13). What have you done? Be honest, God knows. He just wants you to take personal responsibility for your own choices. He seeks to restore you, not rub your face in it (1 John 1:9).

God gives us a conscience but also a choice. Repentance is a universal need that draws us out of shame, fear, sin, self – hiding – and back into the sanctified life God knows is best.

God wants to recover what sin has ruined. Are you ready to come out from hiding and let Him do his amazing work of grace? He comes to you in your shame – isn’t that a comfort?

He calls. Will you choose to trust Jesus enough to come out? God has gone out of His way to do His part, now it’s time to do yours. Be honest, repent, trust Jesus and stop hiding.

You can take a big step toward recovery by believing God already knows and can be trusted to restore you and recover what sin has ruined. Talk to Him right now about it. He’s ready to listen.

I’d love to hear how God is using these messages in your life. You can send me a reply and get a link to share them - if they’re good. Thanks again for subscribing - I’ll see you Tuesday!
