This Is the Lie We Tell Ourselves and The Devil Loves

Why wait until you’re at your worst? There is a better option and it’s...

In Jonah 2, the agony of running from God leads to some lies the devil loves. When we stray from God’s revealed will through His word we risk thinking differently and wrongly about God.

2:1-4a. It’s easy to feel abandoned by God or worse, unseen, in the depths of our poor choices. It feels like “He hates me, doesn’t care, love, like, want or see me” – but they’re lies, all of them!

These are the lies the devil loves because they leave us with false beliefs that can feed dreadful behaviors. But Jonah knew enough about God to look up when he could go no lower. Will you?

2:5-7. We might have to go to the “belly of hell”, into the weeds, the valley of the shadow of death, behind bars or worse before we’re ready to turn back to God. Why wait? Many do.

Sometimes we’ll be at our very worst before we discover the wisdom that changes everything (7-8). The wisdom the devil tries to keep you from just might be waiting in your worst nightmare.

Start agreeing with what God says instead of the lies you believe, and things can change quickly.

9-10. We might sink to unfathomable depths before we can sing, “Salvation is of the LORD!” But if that’s what it takes to turn us around, well, praise God for meeting us there too (Psa. 139:7-8)!

You can discover God’s grace is indeed amazing in the place of affliction God prepared for you! When we’re yielded and ready to listen in our nightmare, Jesus speaks and everything changes.

I don’t know what it will take to turn you around if you’re running from God’s will, but He does. He’s preparing it right now. You’ll get there by running or avoid it by yielding.
