This One Conversation Changed Two Lives Instantly

These two believers had all the right answers but couldn’t...

When the situation you’re in isn’t the one you ordered, it’s easier to walk away! Maybe the circumstances you’re facing make you want to flee or get away for a while and clear your head.

When it feels easy to walk away there’s a question worth answering before you go too far: If I keep walking in the same direction, where will it lead – closer to or away from Jesus?

Feelings are poor guides, and sometimes it’s hard to know. But when you’re headed the wrong way, you can expect God to walk with you awhile. And it’s on that road you’ll need to talk to Jesus.

In Lk. 24, a couple disciples like you and me get discouraged, doubtful, and disillusion about how life should go as a follower of Jesus and start down a road that leads away. It happens, right?

While they’re walking away Jesus joins them and the conversation is revealing:

v. 13-16. Those who follow Jesus have moments of unbelief that cause doubt and lead us the wrong way – away from Jesus. We get disillusioned, wounded, fearful, or angry (add yours).

These guys can talk about Jesus, the Bible, recall important information… and grow distant while not recognizing God walking them! Our reasoning is a poor teacher in the school of faith.

When our vision of what God is doing is restrained, He’ll ask some revealing questions.

v. 17-24. They know the Bible and can recite facts. Yet knowing what to believe is not the same as living as though you believe. Disorienting events help reveal the limits of our faith claims.

v. 25-29. Moments of unbelief can cause us to forget the other things Jesus said. But when we’re open to correction by God’s word we’ll recover the desire to hear more of what it says!

v. 30-32. These guys needed an encounter with Jesus – so do we! When you’re open to the Word pointing out some imperfections in your current walk things get very personal – and that’s good.

v. 33-35. So, don’t be surprised when Jesus shows up in some unrecognizable way when you’re on some walk away. But when He turns you around, you’ll be excited and everyone will know!

When these disillusioned souls recognized Jesus, He vanished. He knows where you are, will walk with you awhile, but then expects you to walk in the power of His resurrected life revealed.

Will you take a moment to identify what has you disillusioned or doubting and makes walking away seem easy or right. Before you go and further down that road talk to Jesus about it.

What would He say that you already know if He opened His word to you? Act like you believe it and see how the power of one conversation with Jesus can turn things around in real time!
