Three Words in Judges Have Been a Game-Changer in My Spiritual Battles
It just doesn’t feel honest to say that Christians win every battle – we don’t, but...
You’ve heard it said, choose your battles wisely. It’s good advice when you get to choose! Yet some battles show up unexpected and catch us unprepared while others leave us no choice.
Maybe you’ve heard it, I have; maybe you’ve said it, I have! – “I’m tired”. The battle you or a loved one is fighting is wearisome, unfair, and exacting a toll that’s just too much.
Perhaps you’ve been praying a long time and you’re tired of no apparent answer or results. It could be you’re fighting for your marriage or financial situation to improve and nothing’s working.
Some are battling for their health, or emotional well-being and things just aren’t getting better. Have you become tired of watching what others you care about are going through?
We can fight a good fight of faith for a purer, stronger walk with Jesus, yet the world, flesh and devil put up strong resistance. We lose a few battles along the way, don’t we.
If I’m honest, at times it feels like the enemy is winning or won. I know we win the war because of Christ, but I’m not sure we win every battle. I don’t think I’m alone in this, right?
Paul (2 Cor. 7:5) and James (4:1) remind us that the battles are real. We can’t ignore them.
But there are three words in Judges 8:4 worth remembering when the battle’s thick. Did you see them?
“Faint, yet pursuing.” That’s us! The battle’s intense, wearisome, drawn out… but we persist!
Gideon and his men had a job to finish, and quitting wasn’t an option. What does that translate into in your life?
That prayer must continue believingly, the relationship is worth fighting for, and trusting God for the finances, health, or situation to change is the answer no matter how tiresome it gets.
Faith, yet pursing is honest, raw, and reality. But it’s also motivating: With Christ, I can!
It might not be pretty, easy, or without its struggles and setbacks – battle never is – but it’s worth it, so persist!
Gideon had others with him, that helped. Who can you get around to keep you going?
Take a moment, right now, and consider the battles you’re facing. Maybe it feels like you’re losing or going to lose. Be honest with God about it and ask Him for the strength to persist (Isa. 40:28-31).
Our biggest breakthroughs often follow our biggest battles – especially when we’re “faint, yet pursuing”! I’m cheering for you! Let me know how I can pray for you. I answer every email.
