🧔🏻♂️For the men in your life. This is good place for men to open up. I’ve been a part of this ministry to men for a while and highly recommend it.
If you met my friend, you’d instantly like her. She radiates a beauty that comes from within mixed with poise, strength and a gentle confidence.
If you heard her story, you’d wonder how on earth she became the calm, collected, gracious and blessedly bold person that she is.
That’s the beauty of giving people space to tell their story without presumption. We all have one, and even when it looks pretty on the outside – inside there’s more to it than meets the eye!
I learned a good lesson from another friend who would say, “that’s not my story to tell.” The idea was simple.
Feel free to share about your life.
Don’t feel free to share about other people’s lives.
Your story is yours to tell.
Their story is not.
Make no assumptions.
My friend doesn’t tell everyone her story. It’s hers to tell. But she didn’t get where she is today by living free from adversity.
Quite the opposite. But it’s her story to tell.
She reminds me of Esther. And since God told her story, I’m running with it!
A teenager esteemed by her peers and those in authority rises instantly to power and influence.
She breeds no envy or ill-will in others.
It’s looks like life has been easy for her and she has it made.
She even saved her people from certain destruction, and her actions are celebrated to this day during “Purim”. (This short article explains it)
Yet, as God tells her story, she lost her parents at a young age, was raised by an older cousin, abducted by a despotic king seeking a virgin to replace his wife.
Placed in his harem she soon became Queen.
She also had to choose what to do with her victimhood.
If she told you her story, you’d be shocked that this bright, beautiful, bold and has-it-all-together person in front of you overcame so much adversity.
But that might be your story or someone you know.
Life isn’t pretty no matter how good the wrapping looks. But adversity can be overcome – the moment you and I decide to not be a victim.
When we do, the beauty isn’t bitterness dressed in clever packaging, it’s the result of what you did with your story.
And that decision doesn’t invalidate the events, their significance, or the pain and loss.
But it does free you to accept what happened and not remain resentful and stuck “back there”.
God wrote a story with Esther’s name on it! The most important lesson from the book is its most famous line Esther 4:14.
She had a choice to remain a victim, become more of a victim, or refuse to live like one.
And the verse that set her free will do the same for you and me (verse 16).
Whatever your story, you can be sure God is using it for things you cannot see or imagine. It’s a book with your name on it, and it’s yours to write not just tell.
To read how Esther’s story began and ended is to recognize what a difference one decision in the middle can make.
