You Began with The Best of Intentions
Sooner or later, you’ll need these four words. You started it and now you...
Two things we all have in common are birth and beginnings. We begin that relationship, job, and all kinds of things with the best of intentions.
Then, they go badly and we wonder, what in the world happened?
Maybe your day began with good intentions and as you read this, it’s anything but. Don’t be surprised, even the Bible started with the best of intentions.
Two chapters of “it’s all good” goes really bad - fast. And it wasn’t even God’s fault! If it happens to God, it’ll happen to us. From beginning to end it’s the story of God.
You’ve probably heard it, or said even said it about yourself, “it started out so good, but then…”, and the story gets discouraging, or worse.
When you start with good intentions and then it goes poorly your perception of God can get distorted, disoriented, even dark. Maybe you or someone you know is there right now.
You started that relationship, the job, text, email, call, or today with the best of intentions. But just a couple chapters in and feels like it’s anything but good!
No matter what is going on right now, the first four words of the Bible are words you’re going to need (Gen. 1:1). Begin with God and things go better.
In the beginning God. It starts there. Before you go any further or make another decision, begin with God. He was there when you started it and is with you still (Isa. 41:10).
When discouraged, disoriented or growing dark, begin a dialogue - with Jesus. Progress starts there. God, who is the Beginning and the End has always been here and always will be.
What is it in your story (or day) that started with good intentions but is now going badly?
Maybe you or they didn’t start it with God, or lost faith, got hurt, sinned, or ignored His instruction. Perhaps you or they haven’t been spending time in the word, fellowship or prayer.
We all have chapters we started with the best of intentions that later went poorly. God did too. He knows.
The greatest story ever told is the good God did with what began with the best of intentions but went badly. That can be your story as well.
So, what’s going poorly right now? Whether it’s your fault or not, before you go any further or make another decision, be sure you start with these four words: In the beginning God.
You began with the best of intentions, and now you wonder. Well, God’s been there too. Whether in prayer or in person, go back to where it began and invite God into it right now.
