When we met for breakfast, I didn’t expect him to tell me he was going home to leave his wife and five children. I was shocked, he was serious. What would you do?

I asked him to stop on the way home and just talk to God for a little while. He reluctantly agreed. Something happened when he got home that he didn’t expect (more on that later).

God can move fast. Do you believe that? Can He change things in your life – overnight?

In 2 Kings 7 things have gotten so bad that God’s people are desperate, hurting, feeling hopeless and doing unimaginable things. It happens to us sometimes too.

They were besieged by the enemy, starving, and without any good options. They had been neglecting the things of God for a long time, and now it caught up.

Then, someone proclaimed that tomorrow everything would change – and was met with doubt and discouragement – just like my friend.

But in v. 3, four men asked a question that can change everything. Did you see it? These weren’t just any men though – they were lepers, outcasts, isolated, and cut off from help.

They couldn’t go into the city because they were rejected and ostracized. Besides, no one would open the door. Yet, they couldn’t go away from the city, the enemy was waiting.

So, “why sit we here until we die” becomes the moment of desperation that changes everything. We ask the hard questions in hard times. When we do, new options appear.

In v. 4, they reasoned that if we do more of the same – we’ll just get more of the same. “Nothing changes if nothing changes.”

Sometimes you can’t or shouldn’t go back to the old ways and people, and you can’t just sit there and do nothing. More of the same becomes insane.

So, they did what my friend did (and you can too) when no good options exist and things look hopeless:

We take a chance on God (v. 5-9)! When we do, He goes out before us and makes a way we could never imagine!

When more of the same is no longer an option, turning to God is always the best option. He’ll get out in front and can change things overnight, before you get home – or sooner!

In the rest of 2 Kings 7, God does an amazing work just like the prophet said. You’ll do better when you refuse to doubt what God can do and remove yourself from the doubters.

My friend stopped on the way home, talked to God, and knew something changed inside him. When he got home something had also changed in her: They reconciled and rejoiced!

Things might not change that quickly, but when you take a chance on God good things are just down the road.

Before you go any further, stop and have a talk with God. He can change things real fast!

Some Thoughts To Help You GO DEEPER with Today’s Message

1. The Change In Crisis  (2 Kings 7:1-2)

We cannot and do not know what tomorrow will bring (Pro. 27:1, James 4:13-15, Matt. 6:27-34). We don’t presume, but we can pray, prepare and believe God can change things - fast.

2. The Choice In Crisis  (2 Kings 7:3-4)

Instead of focusing on all the things you cannot do (self-pity), figure out one thing you can do, and do it. Being proactive defeats analysis paralysis and fear.

In the crisis, maybe you can’t, but Christ can (Jer. 33:3, Mark 10:27, Phil 4:12-13)

3. The Christ In Crisis  (2 Kings 7:5-7)

Jesus doesn’t always show up or work in the way we think He would or should. Look for Him out in front of you as you begin to take those steps of faith (2 Cor. 2:14).

4. The Charity In Crisis  (2 Kings 7:8-11)

God’s blessings and bounty are meant to be shared and to bring Him glory. Generosity changes things - it moves us from being consumers of God’s charity to contributors of it.

5. The Critics In Crisis  (2 Kings 7:12-20)

When God moves critics arise - some even try to steal your hope - expect it and move anyway! What others think doesn’t matter when you know God is moving in your life. He’ll take care of the critics, you just need to focus on Christ (Php 3:13-14).
