Believers Are Burning their Legacy

He took a knife to his legacy and threw it in the fire. Would you do the same? You might.

Enjoy today’s read!

Before jumping in, you’ll get more out of today’s read by looking at these passages first: 2 Kings 22 & Jeremiah 36.

There was a puddle of snots and tears on the floor when I got up. Twelve years of resisting the gospel finally brought me to my knees in a small cape style home in Rochester, NY.

Things changed quickly and the first place I went to was to a shelf in my narrow hall closet. In the back on the top shelf was a gift my brother gave me years earlier.

It sat untouched.

As I opened the box, I knew I had two choices. Either one was going to change the trajectory of my life.

There are two guys in the Bible, from the same family, that had the same choice as me.

The results speak for themselves.

(Read the passages at the top☝🏼 to get more from today’s read ).

Josiah read God’s book, acted upon the parts he understood and brought revival to his life and those around him.

Jehoiakim, his son, chose to “leave it in the closet”. Worse, he took a knife to it and threw it in the fire! He was named among God’s people and burned God’s book!

I doubt you’d do that.

But maybe the Bible is hard to pick up and read or understand. It sits on the table, shelf, or in the app, and rarely if ever opened, read, and understood. It feels too big to bother.

Maybe it feels intimidating, overwhelming, hard to understand, just doesn’t make sense, or you find it boring.

You’re not alone.

But for your sake and those you love something needs to change. The Bible is a life-changing book that does you no good untouched.

So, what’s your current trajectory? Is it one that loves opening, learning and living The Bible or do you leave it alone, neglected or worse yet rejected.

Both leave a legacy. What will yours be?

Read the rest of Josiah’s and Jehoiakim’s story and the choice should become obvious 2 Kgs 23:3, 22:20 and 2 Kgs 24:19-20.

When I took that precious Bible out its box, I chose to never put it down. It became my life. That was over 30 years ago, and I still read it every day with joy. You can too.

You’re reading this newsletter, so I don’t think you reject God’s word outright. But you might be struggling to read and understand it, maybe even to just pick it up.

You believe the Bible and would never think of burning it. But for one reason or another it’s getting cut out of your life and you’re not really getting anything out of it.

There it sits. God’s gift unopened.

Make today the day you open the Bible and refuse to put it down so the trajectory of your life changes too! I’m cheering for you.

Would you allow me to help you leave a better legacy regarding God’s word and your life?

I’m writing a book for those who struggle to read and understand the Bible.

It’s modeled after this live online twelve-week cohort that is taking participants farther than I imagined in their confidence, comprehension, and enjoyment of the Bible.

It’s my first book, a big project and I’m on it! Hopefully you’ll have it later this summer. I’ll keep you updated so stay tuned! And throw in a few prayers if you don’t mind 🙂

Feel free to reply and share with me your frustrations with reading the Bible. It will help me write with you in mind! I read every email.

For now, you can jump into one or both our online study and fellowship opportunities. You’ll find the details below. It’s a good next step for spiritual growth. Hope we see you!
