Enjoy today’s read!
Feeling fully engaged with and important to another person is a rare experience for some.
You feel welcomed, engaged, and important because the one you sit with is fully present: no schedule to keep, no clock, no phone even visible! Who does that?
Good friends and people that achieve greatness do. We sense it right away.
If you had the opportunity to sit with greatness — a hero, star, world class leader, author, or achiever — how would you sit? What would you want out of the engagement?
Would you be looking at your phone while talking? How important would the “next thing” on your agenda be while sitting with greatness?
In 2 Sam. 7, King David was a busy guy who really wanted to “do something” for God. But God really wanted to do something for David! He’d like to do something for you too.
Please don’t brush that off, He really does. God desires to “sit” with you and be present.
We all sit in a lot of places – cars, restaurants, favorite chair, with our phones, church, on the patio with loved ones… in pain, problems, and perplexities of life.
But we can also sit present with God, completely engaged, no distractions, in the presence of Greatness, and He’s totally present.
No one more important to get to, no clock, no phone. He sits present with just you.
I’d like you to meet three people who benefit being “dialed-in” and present in the presence of Greatness while sitting with God.
First, is David who sits present with God while he prays and worships (2 Sam. 7:18-24).
Prayer can be a place of awe and awareness of God’s greatness. It’s also where you gain greater appreciation for Him and awareness about yourself (Psalm 8:3-4).
And then there’s Mary who sat present with God while prioritizing His Word (Luke 10:38-42).
To be effective relationally, especially with Jesus, don’t prioritize efficiency. People aren’t “efficient”; neither is time with God. Open each page ready to engage. Other things can wait.
Now what about you? When you sit present with God, you can take your rightful position seated in Him” not just with Him and then walk in the power of God.
People crave control. It’s an avoidable mistake that puts spiritual growth at risk.
But one small shift in your understanding is a game-changer: Move from sitting in the place “of Christ” (I’m in control) to sitting “in Christ” (He’s in control) Eph. 2:1-6.
Could I encourage you with some gentle bluntness? 😊Don’t be too busy for God, and make sure you’re present. It won’t be efficient but sure is effective when you sit with Him.
In the GO DEEPER section below I’ve added some additional thoughts, Scripture, and practical things to strengthen your walk.

Some Thoughts To Help You GO DEEPER with Today’s Message
Have you ever been in someone’s presence and they were more interested in their phone or someone else in the room besides you? Or, maybe they were in a hurry…
David shows us the importance but also the amazing privilege we have to “sit before the Lord”. Just meditate on 2 Sam. 7:18 and picture what that looks like!
Do you normally think of prayer with this kind of informality & familiarity? You can.
2 Sam. 7:25-29. When we take time with God in prayer like busy king David did, we’ll also enjoy the benefits of counting our blessings and claiming God’s promises in praise to Jesus.
When you read the short account of Mary & Martha, who are you most like?
Mary chose that good part. The greatest compliment someone pays after sitting with you is that they felt seen and heard – you sought to really know them.
Jesus encourages us to spend time with Him like Mary, not Martha. It won’t be as efficient, but it will be far more effective. Read the Word this way Phil 3:7-10.
It will make a world of difference in your relationship with God when you seek to know Jesus not just about Jesus.
Eph. 2:1-3. People crave control for many reasons. Fears, insecurities, and passions cause many to face their past, present, and future by taking the place of Christ. There motto: I’m in control.
Eph. 2:4-6. But one small shift in your understanding moves you from sitting in the position “of Christ” — I’m in control — to your position seated “in Christ” — He’s in control.
Taking our seat in Christ causes us to walk through life believing that whatever we face — past, present, or future — we walk to it, through it, or from it in God’s power and not our own Eph. 1:15-23, 2:1.
Those first two words of chapter 2:1 are a game-changer if you’ll embrace them.
When you choose to be present with God and sit with Him in prayer, prioritize his word, and take your rightful position, you’ll sit or walk thru anything this life brings in the power of Jesus Christ.
If you sense God is present, sit with Him for a while and give Him all your attention.
If you think this would help someone you know, forward it to them and maybe even talk with them about it. What a great way to build a better relationship!
