Enjoy today’s read!

Before jumping in, you’ll get more out of this post if you read Genesis 32.

He approached with a look that was familiar. Something happened that touched a nerve and left him nervous.

He made mistakes – big ones.

He had regrets – and the guilt wouldn’t go away; it was getting worse.

He was trying to control outcomes and consequences – and nothing was working.

He believed God’s word – and could even point to specific “signs” of God at work.

But something had to change, fast.

His story could be yours or mine. Jacob was moving on from a difficult situation and ready to deal with an unresolved issue from his past so he could move forward in peace.

God then makes a huge reveal to reassure him in Gen. 32:1-2. So he makes his move, sends word to his offended brother and braces himself for what seems inevitable.

The meeting is going to happen, they’re on their way.

I never made it right and he’s mad.

Maybe I should have prayed more before sending that message.

What’s going to happen to my family?

I’m all alone Gen. 32:24.

Jacob is wrestling over a twenty-year-old problem of his own making and it’s impacting his family’s future too. What are you wrestling over right now?

When the feelings from unfinished business catch up, God shows up. When fear creeps in, I love Psa. 46 and Isa. 43:1-5.

What seems like an impossible situation becomes possible when you take it to God in prayer. But not just any prayer, prevailing prayer. You wrestle with God about it.

Look at the scene in v. 24-28! It never gets old. Jacob is winning that wrestling match with God and I have thoughts!

God will let you prevail in your flesh (even in prayer) before he finally makes His move.

God’s going to ask some hard questions and expect honest answers. “I’m Jacob” the deceiver, liar, thief, controlling, conniving… frightened and tired soul.

When you wrestle it out with God you won’t just meet the Lord, you’ll meet your limits.

You’ll have to lose the battle in your flesh before you’ll gain the victory in the Spirit.

It’s here we no longer fight, we just cling – to God.

Jacob met his biggest problem, and it was himself. Yet when he finally yielded to the truth in humility he was given a new identity.

When you wrestle with God, you might leave limping, but you’ll be better for the experience. What you “were”, you’ll no longer “be” in Christ!

Wrestling it out with God and refusing to let go doesn’t just send you on your way blessed, you’ll leave knowing you’ve been touched.

But v. 30-32 leaves me wondering.

Jacob got home after a tough night with God and it started a tradition that lasted generations.

What might the impact be on those you lead if you get alone with God and wrestle it out?
