Say the Name

At this gathering it could get you killed and you have nothing to lose.

Happy Tuesday! Drop me a note and let me know what you’re thankful for this week, some special plans you have, or just to say “hey”!

THANKSGIVING DAY ONLINE MEET UP: Thursday 11a-Noon (eastern time). Many of us are blessed to have family to gather with; others will be alone. I’ll be hosting a one-hour online Zoom meeting for subscribers who’d like to join for a time of devotion, fellowship, thanksgiving and a good excuse to meet! No cost (of course)!

But you’ll need a special Zoom link to join us. CLICK HERE and send your email with “THANKS” in the subject line so I can send you the link. Space is limited.

Take the 15 Day Challenge. I’ve created a fun 15 day devotion in Ephesians to strengthen your walk with God. You’ll get a short meditation, handful of verses to handwrite, question to ponder, and couple “to do’s”. Yup, it’s free. Have fun.

If you’re already taking the Challenge, drop me a quick note and let me know how it’s going. I’d love to hear if and how Jesus is working in your life through this.

If you had a choice, would it be generic or name brand? Generic is cheaper, but I’m going with name brand. It packs more clout and creates a stronger sense of connection.

Usually, it’s just good marketing. I know this but sometimes generic just won’t do.

With Peter, “God” felt too generic and he needed more clout (Acts 4:10-12).

Maybe you’ve seen the feeds where people are too intimidated to “say the name”. The pressures on and the stakes are high.

Had Peter faced that mob and used the generic name “God”, it would have been easier and cost him less, but also far less effective. That’s how I feel about buying name brands.

It feels like they’ll have more effect even though I know they’re the same substance.

When Peter said the name “Jesus” the effect was much greater even though He was talking about the same God (Acts 4:13). Isn’t “Jesus who is God” stronger than “God”?

God thinks so (Phil. 2:9, 5-11)! I’m with Him.

Like salt on turkey or into a scraped knee, saying the name “Jesus” heightens the effect!

“God” can seem generic. Only “Jesus” saves (Acts 4:10-12). Jesus, is the name above every name. It’s the name believers say out loud. And yes, He’s God (Titus 2:13, 11-15).

Paul was no stranger to saying the name. He knew that a gospel preached generically is no gospel at all. It was Jesus that died for ours sins, was buried, and rose from the dead!

What a beautiful name it is! This Thanksgiving, don’t go generic, Say His Name.

Now, in some places saying Jesus can get you killed (Acts 14:19). The religious crowd prefers it when we keep “God stuff” generic. Your family and friends might also.

But for Jesus’ sake and the gospel’s, at the family gathering this Thanksgiving don’t do it. “Jesus” is far more effective and you can entrust the results to Him (v. 20-23)!

When you gather for turkey, bring some salt (Mt. 5:13). And, you have a choice: generic “God” or go all in on Christ and say the Name above every name (Phil 1:18-21).

When you go with Name brand it packs more clout and you have everything to gain. Now, Say the Name out loud with me: Jesus. Feel the connection? What a beautiful name it is!

This song just felt good:

If you’d rather just meditate on the words (beautiful piano only, no singing): https://youtu.be/M2y5v2h19qo?si=I1SPgR_8W6ghOXEO

When I want to close the door, turn it up and sing (trust me, you don’t want to hear me!): https://youtu.be/R3lAiDeeFsU?si=P4XG9y34KLSugedC
