If you’ve ever seen a dog pull away from a gentle hand you understand trust issues. People can be that way with God. They pull away from Jesus because they don’t really know what’s true or trustworthy.
You simply cannot trust that which you do not know to be true. Trust issues keep us in the corner.
Naturally, we just won’t draw close to someone we do not trust. Jesus calls us to trust Him, especially in three key areas of our life that for some is very hard. Maybe for you it’s hard (Heb. 10:19-25).
Three times he says, “let us” (did you see them all?). But then he concludes it with, “and so much the more”! God has so much more for us, when we trust (v. 22-23). Here’s three places to look for “trust issues” in your walk.
[This is the intentionally short two-minute read. I’ve expanded it with Scriptures in the GO DEEPER section below if you’d like to dig in a little more].
First, trust Jesus with your past. Regrets rob us of true revival in our relationship with God. The gospel restored what sin ruined and remembers the sin no more! God’s not bringing it up, someone else is.
The past that keeps you feeling guilty is robbing you of a closer walk with God. The past that grieves you is a past that’s gone in Christ! Unforgiveness is like a cruel fetter. In Christ, you’re free from your past but you need to believe that.
Speaking of fetters, trust God with your present. For many believers, fears, failures and fretting keep us from trusting Christ today. Yet what is Christ afraid of, in bondage to, or worried about?
In Christ, you have His present, not your own. Let that sink in. His is a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind for right now. Put it on!
When trouble is staring you in the face, remember that God can part the Red Sea to get you through on dry ground or cause you to walk on water to get to Jesus. Trust Him and so much the more with your future!
The believer is crucified with Christ, placed into His death, burial and raised in His life. You not only have Christ’s past (not your own), and present (not your own), you also have His future (not your own)!
What is it in your future that you cannot entrust to Christ? Whatever you face, you face it not only with Christ, but in Christ. You’re not facing it alone.
Our future is brighter when we determine to focus on Christ and stay faithful to the finish. Because of Jesus, you can face tomorrow, with a true heart and in full of assurance.
This I know, Jesus doesn’t raise a hand to hurt you and has done nothing to call into question His faithfulness. If you’ve been drawing back, my prayer for you is v. 22-23, and so much the more!
Reach out by email if I can be of some encouragement or help in some way with this. If you’d like a little more, you can check out the GO DEEPER section below.

GO DEEPER with Today’s Read:
1. Trust Him, And So Much the More with Your Past.
The Forgetting. Few things hinder a close walk with God like the past. Regrets rob us of revival, and guilt keeps many from God and godliness. The past that grieves you is a past gone in Christ.
The Apostle Paul had to remind himself (and you!) of this (1 Cor. 15:7-10, Phil 3:13-14). Your past was buried with Christ. Leave it there.
The Forgiving. What is in the believer’s past that Christ has not forgiven? Nothing! Then who or what is in your past that you will not forgive or receive forgiveness from?
Unforgiveness is a fetter. In Christ, you’re forgiven and you are free. If you’re having trouble forgiving others I wrote this to help.
2. Trust Him, And So Much the More with Your Present.
The Fetters. Fears, failures and fretting keep some from trusting Christ. His is a Spirit of power, love and a sound mind. Christ is afraid of nothing, addicted to nothing and worried about nothing: In Him live free!
Trust your victory in Jesus and live valiantly (2 Cor. 2:14).
The Fear. Fear paralyzes many from drawing near God presently. But what we often view as a ghost is really our God (Mt. 14:22-27)! Face what you fear and find Christ in the midst of it, then invite Him into the “boat”.
When and what you fear, is what you flee with to Christ. This includes fleeing to Christ with your sin. He knows and can handle it, don’t cover it up (Pro. 28:13).
When God’s people were fearing the worst, Pharaoh, (identify your big problem) – being stuck between a rock and the Red Sea – they saw the salvation of the Lord! You can too.
In fact, God can part the Red Sea to solve any problem and get us to where He wants us to go: on dry ground! If He doesn’t want you to get there on dry ground, He can cause you to walk on water! Trust Him (Mt. 14:28-31, Mt. 11:28-30).
3. Trust Him, And So Much the More with Your Future.
The Faithfulness. What, in the future, can you not trust God with? Decide now and be faithful to draw near to Him.
You’ll become in your future what you focus on today. So, focus on Christ and let it be true of you: faithful to the finish (2 Tim. 4:6-8). Paul was sentenced to death for serving Jesus and sitting alone in jail when he wrote this passage!
The Finish. In Christ, you’re already virtuous and victorious. Now live valiantly. When you look out into the future, do so with faithfulness in view. Focus on finishing well and you’ll be walking closely and trustingly with your Lord.
