You’ve seen the warning: Fragile, handle with care. Life is like that. I remember a movie where a valuable vase got broken but the insurance settlement made it worthwhile.
Sometimes it’s inconvenient, regretful or even painful. But read the Bible long enough and you realize that God uses broken things to bring about better things:
1. A Broken Roof. (Mark 2:1-5). What a scene. I love to get in the shoes of every person in this text and look at it from their perspective. Wow! Who’s going to pay the bill?
Maybe it’s time to allow the Lord to “uncover” some stuff in your life so you can get the healing you desperately need or be the friend who brings the hurting soul to Jesus.
2. A Broken Net. (Luke 5:1-11). It was a “net” v. 5 that kept Peter from full obedience to God’s will “nets” v. 4. But that net broke Peter (v. 8) and caused him to follow (v. 11).
What are you so sure of that it keeps you from following Jesus wholeheartedly?
3. A Broken You. (Psa. 34:17-20). David made some poor choices and is humiliated. Your embarrassment might be what God is using to motivate you to better things.
Like Mt. 11:28-30. Jesus the carpenter prepared custom yokes for wild animals. He knows what will tame you too. Trust Him and step into what He’s prepared.
You’d be hard pressed to find a great person in the Bible who wasn’t humbled before they were honored. It’s God’s method of building a new and better you (Psa. 147:3).
4. Broken Altars (Ezek. 6:1-10). This is so graphic. Why God? Could I suggest we don’t take the effects of our idolatry seriously enough, so God brings the reality home, hard.
Be careful of the altars you build and idols you bow down to. It might be a matter of your heart, attitudes or ingratitude, what controls you… break them before God does.
5. Broken Bread. (Lk 24:28-33). When you’ve wandered away, time in fellowship with Jesus and breaking bread together with others might be what turns things around.
6. Broken Ships (2 Chr. 20:35-37). What alliances or poor decisions have you been making that God is breaking to get your attention or keep you from pursuing?
It’s the relation-ships, friend-ships, member-ships, what or how you wor-ship… maybe you’re in fellow-shipwith darkness or pursuing the wrong things, your marksman-ship.
Life is fragile. Handle with care. And remember, God doesn’t mind breaking things you’re deeply invested in, including you, if that’s what it takes to bring about better things.
And be encouraged. He uses broken things. The Bible is full of examples and so is my life and yours. So, what broken thing has God used in your life?

Join us Mondays as we discuss one of the weekly posts. It’s a great time of fellowship and growth, but don’t take my word for it! 👇🏼
“I just wanted to reach out and say thank you. Monday’s Bible Study was truly impactful. Our discussion on the Great Commission, along with Aquila and Priscilla’s interaction with Apollos in Acts 18, was especially meaningful. We reflected on how they lovingly and respectfully corrected Apollos when he was teaching from an incomplete understanding of Jesus and the gospel.
After receiving that correction, Apollos moved forward boldly, spreading the gospel far and wide. This discussion encouraged me and helped strengthen my confidence in sharing the gospel with others. I also walked away with a valuable three-point framework for sharing my personal testimony.
Steve, I am deeply grateful for you and appreciate your obedience as a disciple in faithfully teaching and sharing the gospel.”
Your Sister in Christ,
Nichelle B.

GO DEEPER & Get More Out of Today’s Read:
Go back through the highlighted verses from today’s read. As you go, ask yourself:
What things in your life or routine are broken or starting to fall apart? Write down as many reasons as you can think of that might explain why and what you can do about it.
What might you need to break or break off before things go badly or God has to break? Remember, things usually get noisy or go silent just before they break.
Again, write as many possibilities as come to mind and ask God to show you.
What better things might God be trying to bring forth from the broken things in your life? Write them down and talk to God about it.
Who can you talk to about the broken things in your life to give you some clarity or direction? Maybe it’s time to make the call and set up that meeting.
Encourage yourself in the fact that God uses broken things and brings about better things as a result. Trust Him and open the lines of communication with Him.
