You Know the Feeling
This one simple thing you already know changes those unwanted behaviors
Hope your weekend’s off to a good start. If you’re new, welcome. I’d love to learn where you’re from so drop a quick reply and let me know.
I’ve been thinking that this publication is not really a “newsletter”. We’re a Christian Views-letter read by thousands of believers. Seems like a better fit. Let me know what you think.
This Might Be of Interest to You. I’m considering starting some personal online discipleship & coaching. Reach out to me if you might be interested.
Join the free online Bible study for our subscribers just like you. The Monday weekly event details are in the MUZE section below. We’d love to study with you!

You know the feeling. They give you that certain look or gesture and immediately you know. You know “mistakes have been made” and you need to take corrective action!
Now, I’m not a New Year resolutions kind of guy. I just quietly set a goal and go. But if I were going to make any, this one is worth serious consideration.
Paul didn’t just say it or set it, he did it. Your behaviors are aligned with what you really believe. Yield to the right beliefs from God’s word and the right behaviors follow.
It makes sense doesn’t it. Like a New Year resolution, you have to act on it consistently to get the right results. Change your beliefs and your behaviors begin to change too.
Acts 24:16. To have “a conscience void of offense toward God, and toward men” you set the goal and go. But it takes “exercise” — that yearly goal we set but don’t get to the go!
Your conscience isn’t the same as the Holy Spirit but it is your friend. It means “with knowledge” and reminds you that “you know”.
At birth, God gave every person two important things that guide us if we’ll allow them to. First, his law on every heart (Rom. 2:15) and also light (John 1:9).
Conscience is your built in “nudge” put there by God so that you’re “without excuse”. These guys are a good example of what I’m talking about.
You’ll feel better when you take the time to not only read the word of God but really seek to know the God of the word. As you align your beliefs with God’s, your behavior changes.
Besides feeling better about yourself and your walk with Jesus, there are some other benefits. (I gave you more in the GO DEEPER section below).
For one, you’ll have more confidence as you speak to others about Christ (Acts 24:24-25). When you speak the gospel with that kind of clarity, their conscience will be provoked!
Let’s face it, when you’re not living right, you probably don’t want others to know you’re a Christian. But look what a clear conscience can do (Pro. 28:1, 4-6).
When you were born again, God cleansed your conscience (Heb. 9:14, 10:19-22). But life happens and when you let your guard down, the junk creeps back in (Titus 1:15).
So, where’s God giving you a nudge for your good because “mistakes have been made”? You already “know” and know the feeling; now align your behaviors with right beliefs.
I have found that this desire and this attitude help me gain a conscience void of offense.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. Reply and let me know. I answer every reply. Remember to check out the GO DEEPER section for more verses and thoughts on your conscience.

GO DEEPER with Today’s Read:
There are many more Scriptures that deal with the conscience. Here are just a few that might help you in some common areas Christians struggle with this issue.
Take your time to read each of the passages carefully so the meaning becomes clear.
1 Cor. 8:12-13, 10:23-33). Read them both carefully. What do you notice? Is everything that bothers someone else’s conscience wrong for you to do?
If you read carefully, it could be wrong for you to do it in their presence, but not privately so long as it doesn’t violate your conscience or Scriptures that clearly warn against or forbid it.
The principle is rooted in loving neighbor and not being a cause for them to stumble in their faith. Weaker believers need mature believers to set a good example here.
1 Tim. 4:1-3. With the proliferation of religions, false teachers and preachers, especially on the internet, great care must be taken to compare their beliefs and instruction with Scripture. What might be sources of poor teaching in your life?
If you want to learn how to better understand and interpret the Scripture, you’ll want to take advantage of this free guide and the live cohort offered here.
1 Pet. 2:18-23. Sometimes our conscience provokes us to keep doing the right thing. You may be suffering for doing right and God uses your conscience to maintain a good testimony for Him.
1 Tim. 1:18-19. Part of our spiritual warfare may involve holding on to sound teaching amid others who are causing serious trouble by their false teaching.
Heb. 13:17-18. Spiritual leadership and followership is not easy. God knows. Pray for your leaders to be good examples and wise stewards of the people God has given them. Write down some things you need to pray about for your pastor.
This was in the two-minute read but worth repeating: When you were born again, God cleaned your conscience (Heb. 9:14, 10:19-22). But life happens and when you let your guard down, the junk creeps back in (Titus 1:15).
When it does, go back to the Lord and ask for forgiveness. He promises to give it (1 John 1:9) and when He does your spirit and zeal will be refreshed and renewed (Psa. 51:10-17).
What are some things you need to take to God right now in prayer and confession so you can enjoy a renewed spirit and clear conscience?
Acts 24:16. You’re going to have to work at this if you really want it. Learn right beliefs then act upon them continuously so the right behaviors eventually become your normal behavior. Like physical exercise, spiritual muscle grows with the right kind of effort. Consider committing to the weekly MUZE (see above) to help.
If your conscience is continually bothering you, it may be indicative of an underlying spiritual issue. Talk to a mature Christian friend, counselor or pastor.
