Maybe you’ve seen it, maybe you’ve “been there and done that.” It’s that sense of injustice or being pushed too far that makes it to the social feeds and headline news.
I absolutely love this verse. It captures something about God worth remembering.
It’s like the guy coming off his porch ready to confront his neighbor because, “that’s it!” You know, you’re watching a hockey game or something and the “gloves come off.”
God’s people pushed God too far. He’s having none of it and they’re about to “find out”. You have to read the text to appreciate the humor and seriousness of it Exo. 32:7-14.
I laugh every time I read it because it’s so vivid and they’re so like – me! Maybe you too?
We know exactly what God says and wants from us:
We read it in the Scriptures and it’s plain as day;
We hear it in a sermon or podcast and know it’s true;
A still small voice says, “don’t do it” but then we do it anyway.
And then comes the “find out” part and God comes off the porch! Hoo boy.
Maybe it’s not you though. It could be someone you know and love. It’s like a slow motion trainwreck unfolding before your eyes.
Would you step in front of a train to stop it?
Moses would – and did! What a difference a little prayer can make.
And that’s the point. You can stop a trainwreck - and even God - in His tracks with just a little prayer. Who is it that needs your prayer right now?
Here’s a verse that is for the “FO” people in your life that I hope you’ll use often. Wait. Can you really do that with God?
Give Him no rest until…
He gives you the answer you so desperately need (Gen. 32:26);
Gives you an answer that you cannot ignore (Deut 3:26, 1 Sam. 23:4, 2 Cor. 12:8-10);
There’s nothing left to pray about (2 Sam 12:22-23);
You need God to “change course” (Exo. 32:11-14);
They get off the fence about God (1 Kgs 18:21, 36-39)!
You never know what a little prayer can do until you do it. There are people in your life right now that are provoking God – instead of getting nasty or numb, get on your knees.
God is patient but He’ll only take so much before it’s time to FO. Your prayer can move the hand of God or stop it!
It shouldn’t surprise us that people push God too far, and then “find out”. What should surprise us, is that we can stop God in His tracks before it’s too late.
I’ve added some other prayers that stopped a trainwreck in the GO DEEPER section below. Take a few minutes and check them out. It might do you or a friend some good.
I’m not great with memes. But it you are, this verse will capture your imagination. I put up a post in IG, FB & Threads Friday about this. If you’re good with memes, go add one 😊

Thanks for Reading!

GO DEEPER with Today’s Read:
Other prayers that stopped a trainwreck
There are plenty of examples of people stepping in to pray seriously on behalf of others.
Go back and look at the examples in the two-minute read and write down times others did that for you and when you did it for them. Give some praise or talk to God about it.
Luke 22:31-32. Satan set his sights on a target, but a friend stepped in.
1 Kgs 18:21, 36-39. Someone needed help getting “off the fence” about God.
Luke 11:8. This “friend” wouldn’t stop knocking until he got what was needed Isa. 62:6-7.
James 5:17-18. When you feel ordinary but need something extraordinary!
Rom 8:26-27, 34. The situation is so painful or perplexing you need a prayer warrior.
Now, take these examples and once again write down times others did that for you and when you did it for them. Give some praise or talk to God about it.
There are plenty more examples to choose from. Take a few minutes to think of some and write them down. Then send them to me with a quick reply. I’d love to hear them.
