Enjoy today’s read!

I heard this testimony the other day and it got me thinking…

I had stopped attending church because of various reasons and was cut off and disconnected for 5-7 years. I was alone, isolated, depressed, and filled with anxiety…

When life gets wearisome, you’re wise to seek some solitude. That’s a good thing. But when circumstances are wearing you down it’s easy to become isolated. That’s not good.

It is in these moments it’s tempting to give in to wrong and destructive choices. I know, you know, and Satan knows! I carry this verse at all times. You’ll need it too.

When circumstances cause you to pull away, you need a strategy, fast. Here’s why:

Satan seeks to get you alone. And that’s never a good thing.

Satan is an opportunist that shows up when we’re weak and wearied. He’s like a lion who seeks its prey along the fringes of the herd and those who are older, slower, weak.

When tempted to pull away from other believers, to let that Bible of yours collect dust, to pray someday but not today or to walk away…, you’re vulnerable and putting yourself at risk.

Luke 4:1-3. He’ll lead you to believe that God doesn’t provide for your legitimate needs and is unreliable. Then he’ll encourage self-sufficiency. Get it yourself; it’s easier that way.

But it isn’t.

Luke 4:5-7. If that doesn’t work, he’ll tempt you to self-anoint. It sounds a little like, “Don’t listen to God’s word, just do it your way. After all, things go better when you’re in control.

But it doesn’t.

Luke 4:9-11. Maybe you’ve been hurt too many times and trust has become an issue. So Satan makes self-preservation look good.

He whispers, “God’s not going to catch you” and in your weakened state, trust fades and it’s just easier to avoid all risk and go it alone.

But it isn’t.

This too is worth memorizing. I use it all the time. You will too.

When the enemy of your soul peels you away, you become easy prey. Don’t fall for it.

That testimony finishes like this. “…When reaching out, I was welcomed into a collective of [believers] all striving to take one more step toward Christ. I have had the greatest of opportunities to meet [others] looking to break the cycle of some type of brokenness.

When Jesus was isolated and in Satan’s sights, He turned to Scripture and trusted God. Where will you turn before you become easy prey for that enemy on the prowl?

We’re building a free online community that meets every Monday @ Noon (EST) for an hour of fellowship and study. You can check it out below.

GO DEEPER with Today’s Read:

Luke 4:1-13. Read the whole text and pick out Jesus’ strategy each time He was tempted.

Where you might tempted to provide for legitimate needs by taking a short cut (v. 1-3)? Now, remind yourself what God says (v. 4, Deut. 8:1-4, Mt. 6:31-34).

Where are you tempted to be in control but know God should be (v. 5-7)? Think about where you’re self-willed, stubborn, or afraid to let go of control.

Give it over to God and worship Him instead(v. 8, Deut. 6:4-14, 2 Cor. 10:3-6).

Now, where are you tempted to prove whether God cares? It’s common to feel this way but put not a good place to stay. Here’s a reminder (v. 12, Isa. 43:1-5a, Heb. 13:5-6).

Lastly, look at v. 13. He’s relentless! Make sure you’re in God’s word or you might not stand a chance when temptation finds you alone.

I wrote some things about loneliness. You can read it here.
